From its inception over two millennia ago during the Han Dynasty in China, the art of printmaking has evolved from basic ink and paper to sophisticated forms that challenge the very nature of the medium. Taiwanese artist YANG Chung-Ming stands at the forefront of this evolution. He has redefined printmaking by merging the image creation process with the art of paper-making itself, delving into the paper’s fiber structure and plant origins to produce images that manifest only under light. This pioneering, inkless technique not only showcases Yang’s leadership in contemporary experimental print art but also reflects the resilience and subtlety of Eastern aesthetics.
